"Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." (Psalm 55:22)
Have you ever wondered why there are those who have received terrible, horrible news and they just seem to be able to praise God? What is the secret to experiencing peace in the midst of a storm?
Cast you burden on the Lord and LEAVE IT with Him. While many people know about casting their burden on the Lord, few really do it for very long. Our tendency is to pray about a problem. . .give it to the Lord. . . and then take it back as soon as we say, “Amen.” We let the Lord see our burden, but we feel better about taking care of things ourself. That formula never produces peace.
I was talking to an elderly lady at one of the senior apartment complexes here in Wellsville and she asked me to pray for her. She had just received news from her doctor that her body was full of cancer. She told me that she had lived a full life and if that was how she was to leave this world, then she was ready. Her father was a pastor and she had seen her children and grandchildren come to Christ. With a smile on her face, she said, “there is no way I could ask for anything more.”
A few days later, I was leaving the apartment building where she lives and as I was leaving this woman, full of grace, was getting out of a car with the help of her daughter. I noticed that she had her arm in a cast and said, “Hey, what’s up with the cast”? She cheerfully said, “Hey, the other day when we prayed about casting our burdens on the Lord, I didn’t expect Him to put a cast on my arm.” She had taken a fall. With a smile on her face and joy in her heart she managed to “not be shaken” by the things she was going through.
God knows a lot more about our burdens than we do. He has all power and all authority. The wise move is to take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there with Him. He can be trusted with the worst of situations.
But I Am Worried!
How can you tell if you have picked your burden back up again? It is easy. If you are worried and bothered over your burden, whatever it may be, you have taken it back. Once you cast it on the Lord, it is His problem, not yours.
Don’t forget, God loves you and we do too!
